Mixing hip-hop rhythms with smoothed-out vocals, Intro emerged on the R&B music scene in the early 90s. The group features impressive songwriting centering around romance and relationships, along with a contemporary and urban look at street culture. Intro's members are Kenny Greene, Jeff Sanders, and Clinton "Buddy" Wike. The band's name is an acronym, standing for Innovative New Talent Reaching Out. They were discovered at a talent show in the early 90s by DJ Eddie F (Edward Ferrell). Intro perfromed a track for Eddie F and he signed them afterwards. Before their self titled release, Intro's Kenny Greene did background vocals on Try My Love by Shinehead and the group sang background |

Kenny wrote Mary J's My Love, Reminisce, You Remind Me, and Love No Limit from her mutli-platinum debut CD. Intro released its debut self-titled album in 1993, and the record received critical acclaim for its songwriting. Greene and co-writer, Hall, tied with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for ASCAP's award for R&B Songwriter of the Year. The album went to number 11 on Billboard's R&B album chart. Intro followed up with New Life in 1995, which was recognized by critics who found the second album demonstrated a maturity in Intro's work, particularly in terms of its musical composition and arrangement. Intro played with high profile stars, such as Chaka Khan and Shanice Wilson, during the late 1990s. The group recorded a track, I'm the One Who Loves You, that was produced by Stevie Wonder. This song was compiled on the Curtis Mayfield tribute album. Intro's music can also be heard on the soundtrack for Jason's Lyric when the group worked with Black Men United (BMU), recording U Will Know. The group made a television appearance as well, performing a cover of Marvin Gaye's What's Going On on an episode of New York Undercover. The last time lead-singer Kenny was in the recording studio was in early 2001 singing background vocals Tyrese on his 2000 Watts CD. Then in July of 2001, Kenny broke his silence, disclosing his condition to everybody at Sister 2 Sister magazine, admitting that he led a bisexual lifestyle and had full-blown AIDS. It was indeterminable how long he was bedridden for, but he was hospitalized at a Jewish hospital in Los Angeles, California. He passed on October 1, 2001. |
